A Walk on the Cool Side

I don't have much to report this week -- mainly because I was lazy.  We didn't learn about anything specific -- mainly because I was lazy.  I could blame it on the fact that Monday was a holiday and it threw us off our regular schedule.  Or I could blame it on the fact that I had company last weekend so I didn't spend the usual time I do preparing for something to learn about.  But, truth be told, I was just lazy.  I guess I wouldn't be a very good school teacher because I would just say, "Ok, kids, this week we're just taking a break -- do whatever you want."  :-)

Anyway, we did kind of review what we've learned about so far, so that counts, right?

Today we didn't have any plans when we woke up, so we took a walk to the park.  Our "no plan" day quickly turned into an eventful one.

First, we swung on the new swings.

Then we walked on the "balance beam" wall as we like to call it.  Jaxon was very excited because the last time he did this he fell and scraped his knee (a common occurrence at our house), and this time he walked around several times without falling.  Jaden thought his flag gave him more balance. :-)

Then we walked to the prairie dog town to check them out.  I told the boys they needed to be quiet so that they didn't scare the little varments into their holes.  Jaxon waved at them and whispered, "hey, prairie dogs!"

Then, because we had already done a lot of walking, we decided to sit down at a picnic table for a while to rest.  But instead of resting, Jaden quickly came up with a game -- you can liken it to air hockey except with a picnic table and a football.  Get the idea?

While we were "resting" at the picnic table, Jason showed up with lunch from Sonic.  So, we had a sort of spontaneous picnic lunch.  It was fun and the boys really enjoyed it!

After Dad went back to work, we started our walk home by way of the kiddie park.  The first thing the boys did was climb the big tree that's there.  Jaden did it all by himself; Jaxon had a little help.

After climbing the tree, we played hide-and-seek and Jaxon fell while running and scraped his knee (I told you that was a common occurrence), so we headed home -- three hours after we left.  Needless to say, they both took really good naps today.

I guess it would have made the park experience a little more complete had we taken bread to feed the ducks or taken a fishing pole to fish at the pond.  Otherwise, I think we did everything else that there is to do in our great city park.  The best part was that it was a beautiful, cool day!
